I am an Actor Trainer, Director, Movement Director and Life/ Performance Coach. Phew that's a mouthful! I have always been passionate about self expression; about one’s freedom to express your ideas, thoughts and persona through what you say, do and who you are being.
This passion led me to acting, to this creative outlet that allowed me to express parts of me that I was afraid to express in my everyday life. I trained as an actor for 4 years (BFA in Acting) and realized along this journey that somehow the joy that was once there was slowly dimming.
You see, in actor training there is an intense focus on developing proper technique- how to approach text/character, and training the expressive potential of the voice and body. However, no matter how much I mastered these techniques, I found that I was never fully successful in performance. I felt like a failure in most instances. I could do the technique in class but there was a massive divide between the studio work and a successful performance. I also saw that this issue was not uniquely my own. Many of my peers were having similar problems. We would often receive feedback that our performances were ‘inorganic’ and ‘lacking truth’. This was my greatest trigger! What was this elusive 'TRUTH'? Especially, what is truth within the artificial setting of acting?
Towards the end of my training, I realized that none of the technique mattered if you couldn’t make people believe what you were doing. Therefore, I started investigating ‘truth’ and how to get actors to successfully embody it; this led me to directing. Directing was the perfect segue for my career as it allowed me to continue to express myself through the creation of stories on stage, whilst investigating ways to ignite ‘truth’ within an actor’s performance.
Through my own experience and work with actor’s, I discovered that the physical body was the key to unlocking truth within a performance. Therefore, as my career took turn towards teaching, I started to focus on physical approaches to acting and movement training for actors.
I was excited by the work I was doing with these performers and the progress I was making in deepening my understanding of what was necessary for an actor to be successful. I then decided to do a masters in London in 'Actor Training and Coaching' as I felt this would allow me the space and time to solidify my practice.
While completing my Masters degree, I honed my unique philosophy and approach to training actors (Emoti Core Training™). In helping my students move beyond technique and embodying their own individual connection with “truth”, they achieve greater success both professionally and personally; they are more confident in their skills and who they are as people. This, I have found, is the key ingredient to success.
My practice has evolved to also include life coaching, which allows me to help other professionals connect with their truth, clarify their intentions and synthesize both into actions so that they too can enjoy more success in their lives.
Having a sincere confidence in who you are, makes you more comfortable in allowing people to see your most authentic self. You become more naturally radiant and magnetic, fostering a greater connection with your audience whether it be on the theatre stage or on the stage of life.
